Westmont is 24 miles west of Chicago, situated along Ogden Avenue. Westmont was once farmland worked by laborers who found themselves out of work when the Panic of 1837 stopped the construction of the Illinois-Michigan canal. To transport goods, a plank road was laid over several miles of swampland between Westmont and Chicago which became Ogden Avenue. Today, with a population of 25,000, Westmont is both commercial and residential. A busy downtown with shops and dining as well as shopping malls and car dealerships make living in Westmont and the surrounding areas both convenient and serene.
